Be sugar smart this Easter
With Easter fast approaching and the shops filled with sugary treats it’s hard to resist temptation. When you ask most children what they think about Easter – I’m sure they will all think chocolate eggs!
Off course there is nothing wrong with the occasional treat, but when most children are receiving lots of chocolate (some children around 10 eggs!) their sugar intake is FAR higher than recommendations.
So a few tips to avoid cavities this Easter;
Avoid grazing, eating throughout the day doesn’t allow your saliva to neutralize the acids that are formed by the bacteria in your mouth.
Rinse after eating, this will help to neutralize the acids in your mouth. Avoid brushing straight after eating as your enamel is softer whilst under attack from acids.
Always brush before bed! Aim to brush twice per day for 2 minutes, using mouthwashes in between and interdental cleaning.
Book an appointment with your dentist James or Colin or hygienist Suzanne here at Thorpe Lea Dental Staines! Once the chocolate has all been eaten, ensure to have a checkup for your whole family.
Its best to catch cavities at an early stage to prevent them growing in to larger cavities which can be painful and lead to further necessary treatment!
