Teeth bonding is also used for filling cavities, especially on the front teeth. In this instance, it is known as a white or composite filling. For aesthetics and durability, they are a viable alternative to metal fillings.
Q How does the bonding procedure work?
Dental bonding can be done in just one visit because it requires no moulds to be made and no use of a dental laboratory.
First, a mild etching solution will be applied to the surface of the tooth, allowing the bonding material to adhere, and a thin plastic material applied. Then the bonding is placed on the tooth and moulded to the desired shape.
Next, a high-intensity light is used to cure, or harden the bonding so that it is now part of your tooth. The process takes anywhere from 30-60 minutes per tooth.
Q Do bonded teeth require special care?
Yes, just a bit more than natural teeth. You should continue with a good hygiene plan that includes regular brushing and flossing and of course, regular check-ups with your dentist. Teeth bonding can chip and stain so you should avoid biting your nails or other hard objects as well as smoking or excessive coffee or cola drinking, if at all possible.
Q How long will the bonding materials on my teeth last?
On the average, bonding on teeth can last from seven to eleven years. It could be a longer or shorter time depending how much bonding material was used and how you take care of your teeth.
Q How much does dental bonding cost?
Each dental bonding case is uniquely hand-crafted for each patient, which means prices may vary. Please see out current Pricing Information for guidance.
